Research Gap

Before beginning this course, I didn't really know what the continuation of a piece of research was. This changed drastically when we talked about research gaps during class. I believe all research, no matter how often it is analyzed by scholars, contains research gaps. There is no subject, object, or abstract idea that cannot be researched further. For example, the topic I have decided to make my research proposal on, the complexity of legal terminology, comes with an immense research gap. While some dedicate their careers to interpreting and researching legal terminology, many questions remain unanswered. Some of the questions to continue researching are what actually entails easy and complicated terminology.

  1. Hi Cesar,

I love the idea of exploring legal terminology! Since there is a dearth of research on this area, it would be worthwhile to pursue such an angle (and yes, I definitely agree on your point about the exigency for scholars to fill in continuous gaps, esp. in the PTW filed). You can even focus on using one of the qualitative research methods to collect texts/documents, etc. for analysis, but you are also welcome to include some quantitative data to triangulate if you so desire. Lots of possibilities to choose from, indeed.

Let's touch base to talk more about this before your research proposal is due, ok? Just send me an email to set a quick zoom appointment if you need guidance -- am here...
